Age 5

At the age of 5 we were told that we could no longer attend Conductive Education as it was only for pre-school children, this was very hard to take as Libby was just becoming aware that she was different to other children and also that to achieve her goals, she needed to work very hard and exercise regularly, stretching daily and maintaining the level of ability that she had achieved. We fought long and hard and managed to continue our sessions but not as regularly. For us as a family, Conductive Education has been a major part in Libby’s progress and continuing the therapy has enabled Libby to use single sticks and take her first steps by herself in 2009. This is an amazing achievement and one that we didn’t dare dream would happen, however, we have a very long way to go and lots of hard work from Libby to build her strength, stamina and most importantly her confidence – it’s a long way to fall when you’re 8.5 years old!
